DoorDash - Food Delivery Right At Your Fingertips

By Andreas Fanos on March 12, 2018

Who doesn’t love food? Haven’t you ever been sitting at home wishing that you could order food from your favorite restaurant or other places? Now that is possible with an app/website named DoorDash, it connects an individual by signing in and putting your location to which restaurants or other places deliver in your area. A description of the brand from their website says, “DoorDash is a technology company that connects people with the best in their cities. We do this by empowering local businesses and in turn, generate new ways for people to earn, work and live.”

This website is revolutionary as many places can be found to deliver straight to your home. I enjoyed this past week of being able to order from one of the best deli’s in New Jersey in the Millburn Deli. Fast food chain Wendy’s delivers in the Jersey area and many other restaurants in the area., depending on which city you live in. Technology has advanced throughout the years and although it can be distracting and harmful, it can be beneficial in many ways like with this website. This could very well lead people to order food and have it delivered to their home rather than going out. People will still go out to eat, but it could diminish as consumers can order from their favorite restaurants and have it delivered right to their home.

The startup has a terrific mission statement: ”$165 million worth of food is wasted each year. 16 million U.S. households go hungry.” The company is trying to tackle this huge issue by donating food and eliminating waste. The brand originated in California, but it has been able to rapidly expand to Seattle, Minneapolis, New York City, Houston, Boston, Washington DC, and more.

Customers can work for the company as a delivery individual or as they call it a “Dasher.” The benefits are that the hours to work can be flexible and on the person’s own terms.

You might be wondering how DoorDash came about and how it grew so rapidly. It was able to get “$535 million to its capital war chest as the delivery wars heat up.” The money has come from other huge companies that saw the big potential for DoorDash. The company is valued at “$1.4 billion dollars” and rising.

An article by prominent website Forbes written by Biz Carson describes the growth of the brand as endless, as “the company plans to nearly triple its market from 600 cities to over 1,800 cities by the end of 2018. And 40% of restaurant sales will be “up for grabs” in the market by 2020, or around $220 billion.” The money that can be made in the industry is limitless.

Uber Eats is another option to order food and Dominos of course, but DoorDash seems to be the more reliable and easiest method. Go and launch your browser and check out DoorDash!
